Q1: What is meant by breathable?
Fabrics are, of course, inanimate. The concept of breathablity in fabrics made with TETRATEX® membrane by Donaldson Company Inc. is centered on the ability of the membrane to allow moisture vapor (perspiration) to escape from the body, while preventing water (rain, snow, etc.) from entering the garment. This technology, designed to protect our fighting forces, keeps the wearer comfortable, dry and safe.
Q2: Is there a membrane or fabric and membrane combination that can protect the wearer from bloodborne diseases?
Yes! Our membranes are engineered for and used in both the medical and EMT industries because of their resistance to bloodborne pathogens and numerous microbiological hazards. Many unique properties can be designed into the optimum fabrics for your application.
Q3: How is waterproofness accomplished in the seams?
In order to maintain total waterproofness, all of the sewn seams must be sealed using specialty heat seal tapes that we manufacture to work with each individual laminate we produce. The same superior advantages designed into our fabric are meticulously engineered into all of our tapes. Our engineers can assist you in the processing of these tapes on your sewing floor.
Q4: What markets are appropriate for these fabrics?
Fabrics manufactured with TETRATEX® membrane are not for every market. These fabrics produced by Donaldson Company Inc. are only manufactured for applications where the highest quality is needed. These fabrics are generally used to keep the wearer comfortable while they meet various extreme situations head on, such as saving someone’s life, engaging in extended combat, or enjoying the slopes.
Q5: What fabrics can be used in combination with Tetratex® membrane?
