OIL MIST: EXTRACTION SYSTEMS SHOULD NOT ONLY PROVIDE AN ALIBI
DRYFLO® IMPROVES WORK ATMOSPHERE

The precipitation of emulsion and oil mist on floors, walls, and machines in metal processing operations indicates inadequate functioning of extraction systems. An unpleasant work atmosphere, health and economic damages are usually difficult to detect, but are often underestimated factors of production costs. In most cases the deficiencies are not only due to insufficient plant maintenance, but also the fact that the extraction system only has an alibi function, because the defined and legally required filtration of exhaust air does not take place in an appropriate manner. This is the conclusion the Donaldson® experts come to when doing surveys in metal-cuttings operations.

Intensive consultation and the employment of technically mature extraction systems, which provide the most up to date application orientated filtration technology, can offer the required corrective action. Donaldson, one of the leading manufacturers of exhaust air purification systems, has developed a complete oil mist separator range - Donaldson Dryflo® system. Technically and economically, Dryflo offers the optimal solution for every application, diverse types of steam/aerosol, and varying volume flows, whilst conforming to local requirements.

For a better assessment of the individual oil-mist separation solutions, it is helpful to compare the different systems Donaldson offers.

When comparing the different systems, the superiority in the degree of separation offered by Donaldson Dryflo® oil-mist separators can clearly been seen. This, amongst other things, is due to Donaldson’s intensive research and development as well as the worldwide experience in the most diverse areas of application and regulations. One of the substantial factors is the high-efficiency, multi-level separation of the proprietary developed Dryflo filter elements, which have (in accordance with NF X44-606, tested by CETIAT) an efficiency rate of 99,8% related to total steam and aerosol ratio. It is remarkable that as time goes by there is even an increase in the separation efficiency and this level remains at a high during the entire life span of the filter element, whereas with other systems, the performance directly decreases.

The expertise and experience of the Donaldson engineers, combined with the practical application test performed with the Donaldson Dryflo oil-mist separator helps to ensure adherence to the toxic concentrations in the working environment (MAK-values), the recommended emission regulations, as well as the requirements for pure-air feedback according to BGR 143. Thus, the Dryflo® clearly enables a reduction in operating costs due to the high efficiency and the possibility of pure air feedback.
